social8 has been looking for a nice place to work since the beginning of the year. There are only so many coffee shops, hotel lobbys and other places with WiFi that you can inhabit without going crazy or being thrown out. Thanks to a chance meeting with James McCarthy at the Wired Sussex digital media jobs fair early in the year, the hunt is now over.

James is a founder of a co-working venture in Brighton, The Werks along with Ian Elwick. Together with Rosie Sherry they have helped the place get a reputation for the kind of forward thinking approach to alternative working solutions we like. Take a look at their rules of engagement and you’ll see what I mean.

The Werks is a supportive, collaborative and affordable work environment for individuals and small businesses. Our werkers are creative, freelance, independent and nomadic people who need an environment where one size does not fit all.

After visiting on a Friday (open co-working day) I met with Rosie, who bribed me with lunch and I signed up later in the day. Its a great place, great people, great ideas and social8 is now proud to be known as a Regular Joe and will be wandering in and out of The Werks in a nomadic way for the foreseeable future.
